Job Description
New York's leading publishing corporations is seeking an Editorial Director. Applicants for this position should have experience overseeing content acquisition and book development, as well as managing a team of editors.
You must have excellent agent relationships, strong analytical skills, experience developing books and a proven track record of success in the industry.
This position will be a hands-on director who will lead a team in acquiring, evaluating, developing and editing manuscripts and proposals within health, wellness, and cookbook categories.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination of new books, from acquisitions through product release
- Oversee the acquisition, design and editing of an extensive line of cookbooks as well as general-interest books
- Lead content acquisitions efforts and manage author/agent relationships and contract negotiations
- Act as a liaison between authors and editors, agents, freelancers, and different departments within the company
- Traffic books through all stages of editorial production and coordinate the process with the authors
- Work closely with the marketing team to ensure strategic planning and scheduling of new books, as well as manage an extensive backlist of titles
Requirements
- 10+ years experience in publishing and 6+ years in progressively senior management roles
- Knowledge of all aspects of publishing with an emphasis on acquisitions and list management
- Strategic planning experience with an entrepreneurial ability to successfully develop marketable publishing concepts
- A proven record of meeting deadlines and budgets while maintaining the highest level of quality control.
- Strong people management skills with demonstrated success with hiring, developing, coaching and retention
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stake holders
- Experience in the health/wellness/food categories
