Local Logistics and supply chain company based in the Beverly Mass area is seeking a IOT Hardware Design Engineer to join them on a long term contract engagement.

This position is a senior resource for the Hardware Electronics Design group and will play a key role in designing our next generation of IoT/Cloud based/Cyber secure electronic hardware products from conception to general product availability.

The candidate must have strong electronic design skills as well as being able to manage projects.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working closely with Product Management to help develop product requirement specifications and be able to transfer those requirements into a design specification document
  • Propose concepts for new product designs related to standard electronic instrumentation and investigate patentable ideas
  • Develop or drive the development of electronic instrumentation products such as Temperature Data loggers, RF/Wireless data loggers (using ZigBee, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, ISM band, Cellular) as well as their supporting hardware
  • Coordinate, specify and validate third party design testing in accordance with applicable standards such as CE, Drop & Vibration, IP rating, DO-160, FCC, ETSI, PTCRB and any other standards as required
  • Lead the Failure Mode Effects & Analysis assessments
  • Interfaces with outside vendors, consultants and customers
  • Actively collaborates with other departments as required based on project requirements
  • Provides sustaining and manufacturing engineering support for internal/external based manufacturing operations
  • Develop and/or lead the development of all of the hardware documentation required to release a product to Manufacturing such as but not limited to:
    • BOM’s
    • Schematics
    • PCB artwork
    • Mechanical drawings
    • Component Drawings/datasheets
    • Test plans
    • Third Party Test Certification Documents
    • Product Risk Analysis Assessment
    • Product Validation Test Summary Document
  • Provide escalated tier 3 support for existing and newly-released products and have solid product troubleshooting/debugging skills paired with the ability to resolve product issues
  • Have basic skills for mechanical design techniques
  • Highly skilled in the use of complex lab instruments and equipment (DVM, Oscilloscopes, RF Power Meters, Spectrum Analyzers, Data BUS Analyzers, Data Acquisition Units, Environmental Temperature Chambers
  • Develop or drive the development of electronic instrumentation products such as Temperature Data loggers, RF/Wireless data loggers (using ZigBee, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, ISM band, Cellular) as well as their supporting hardware
  • Work with procurement in qualifying component suppliers, defining special component requirements or testing
  • Assist and/or coordinates continuous process/product improvement and cost reduction initiatives along with other tasks as assigned
  • Domestic/International travel will be required while working with external resources – up to 20%
  • Other tasks as assigned

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • BSEE with 5+ years relevant experience or ASEE with 7+ years relevant practical ‘hands on’ experience or equivalent degree
  • Background in electronic instrumentation design engineering and Wireless product design
  • Experience with the design of cellular based GSM/GPRS products and cellular based protocols
  • Experience implementing SMS, TCP commands & TCP/IP protocols
  • Experience in designing GPS positioning products
  • Experience with RF/wireless hardware and network protocols associated with ZigBee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, and cellular data is HIGHLY desired
  • Experience working with Microcontrollers and the ability to lead Firmware Engineers in the development of code for a product
  • Experience using sensors such as Temperature, Humidity, Light & accelerometers
  • Working knowledge of (C, C++, C#), LabVIEW, and/or Visual Basic is plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Project
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solid works, Pads, or similar CAD tools
  • Experience creating BOM’s, Schematics & PCB Design
  • Previous ISO 9001 work environment experience
  • Selected individual should have at least 5 years of technical management experience combined with excellent project management and people leadership skills
  • Capable of driving and working with design partners & suppliers on time critical projects
  • A clear/proven ability and/or willingness to accept accountability for his/her organization and its team members in terms of providing leadership and being able to delegate effectively while accepting full responsibility for the team’s results
  • Must possess excellent communication (verbal, written, listening) and organizational skills, and be comfortable addressing groups and executives as a speaker/presenter
  • Able to apply applicable technology to provide practical solutions while fostering innovation, problem solving, and creative solutions in the disciplines specific to the Electronic Design function described herein
  • As a plus, familiarity of securing embedded systems and experience in protecting electronic hardware using the latest cybersecurity techniques

TRAVEL:

  • Up to 10% travel – both domestic and international travel required
