This position is responsible for managing multiple accounts and manages the daily activities of the Associate Art Buyer. Role ensures artwork sourced and supplied is done so efficiently at the highest quality for all agency accounts. The Art Buyer should possess a firm knowledge of the commercial art field, competitive pricing, legal rights and usage for art work and be a strong negotiator. This position reports to the Director of Print Production and interacts closely with the Traffic, Creative and Account teams, and Finance Departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all schedules are agreed upon, legal rights and usage are adhered to, all components are negotiated, produced, and approved throughout appropriate people/departments within the agency for assigned projects/accounts
  • Supplies all photography and illustration related costs including model casting, props, sets, film, processing, stylist and usage rights information
  • Responsible for commissioning and pricing with outside vendors for all work; sourcing stock images from Photo Libraries and negotiates user fees
  • Obtains and supplies information to the vendor and Creative/Acct teams that will ensure authenticity and accuracy in all details
  • Obtains all legal releases for recognizable persons, personal property, maps, music and others that appear in print advertising
  • Attend all client pre-bid and pre-production meetings
  • Constructs and prepares supplier bid letters for the client/agency bid process of estimating all photography needs/assignments (following required financial process)
  • Issues all purchase orders relating to photography, stock, illustration, retouching and other before commissioning work
  • Continual monitoring of costs, communicating overages or inaccuracies early and often
  • Reviews and approves all external invoices and costs for accuracy. Submits approved invoices for payment
  • Reviews work of photographers and illustrators to keep up with current trends; schedules portfolio viewing with them periodically, as well as meeting with artists and their representatives to be knowledgeable of industry talent
  • Adheres to client needs and works as the key contact on all photo productions
  • Works to promote creative management and insight to all key clients and internal teams

Requirements

  • College degree preferred
  • 7 + years of experience as an Art Buyer
  • Mac computer proficiency; knowledge of Excel, MS word, internet and comfortable learning new systems
  • Highly organized and structured thinker with sound judgment skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Pro-active and self-driven individual, results oriented with a positive outlook and clear focus on high quality
  • Reliable and determined with the ability to make things happen
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent supervisor skills and able to manage different personalities
  • A team player that is flexible and excited for new experiences
  • Creative mind with a passion for photography
  • Strong negotiation skills – able to skillfully negotiate in tough situations internally and externally; be both direct and forceful and diplomatic at the same time
  • Strong Vendor relationships – can gain trust of vendors and support of vendors and partners with them for best outcome for the client
