Our client, a premiere financial institution, is seeking a Communications Specialist to join their growing team in Richmond, VA. Job Description:

  • Respond to day-to-day associate communications regarding corporate volunteerism and community relations initiatives
  • Manage onsite volunteer opportunities to ensure high quality associate volunteer experiences and drive volunteer retention
  • Assist with associate engagement volunteer tracking and partner with the Community Affairs operations team regarding volunteer data reporting
  • Implement large-scale onsite and frequent volunteer events
  • Manage the storage of and distribution for volunteerism supplies
  • Manage data entry and event creation as needed to maintain accurate reporting
  • Manage market-wide drives (one per quarter) that includes coordination of site managers, communications, logistics and data collection
  • Coordinate all logistics related to Capital One sponsored onsite events including supplies and executive approvals
  • Support and manage activities and events associated with scheduling, ticket management for internal and external assets, group meetings, travel, speaking engagements, volunteer activities, sponsorship fulfillment, event briefings etc.
  • Create, coordinate and manage appropriate level communications with various partners to execute on events

Internal Communications:

  • Manage content and distribution of monthly market-wide email newsletters for associate and executive populations
  • Maintain, update, and create web content as needed for company intranet

Sponsored Event Management:

  • Coordinate with partner organizations to manage corporate sponsorship activation
  • Manage attendance, ticketing, and event briefings for sponsored events
  • Assist with event design and logistical support for sponsorships including an onsite associate experience

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-3 years’ experience in volunteer management, community relations, communications or complementary field
  • Database management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA, preferably in business, public relations, or communications
  • Partnership building and relationship management skills
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills; strong influencing skills.
  • Able to articulate the ROI of corporate social responsibility programming to associates
  • Experience creating persuasive PowerPoint presentations; able to write succinctly and descriptively.
  • Experience creating content for digital/online communications (web and email)


  • The client is unable to support 1099 / Corp-to-Corp or Independent Contractor arrangements at this time. All freelancers will be paid as W2 employees.
