Interaction Designer (Freelance)

Our client, a leading services provider, is rapidly growing their Digital Product team and is looking to hire an Interaction Designer for a long-term contract opportunity. This position begins remotely ASAP. Candidates must be local to NYC area as team plans to go back to the office on a flex basis in Q3 2021.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading concept development through sketches and storyboards
• Communicate and solve problems through detailed interaction designs, screen flows and prototypes to clearly articulate solves to Agile teams
• Partner with Designers to ensure adherence to best practices and established design guidelines
• Partnering with an interdisciplinary team of designers, tech leads, strategists, researchers and engineers to bring multi-channel product experiences to life
• Interact with senior project stakeholders, bringing the team along in the process as needed
• Leverage your experience to provide guidance and vision for the portfolio of products
• Mentor junior team members throughout the design process
• Drive the user research and consumer need finding process, lead workshops and guide the team towards overcoming issues through visual solutions
• You will work both at a conceptual high level as well as get into the details of your projects, leading the development of concept wireframes, sketches and storyboarding as needed
• Create interaction designs and flows, and developing prototypes as needed to guide agile teams
• Champion user-centered design that provides simple and intuitive product features
• Leverage research to discover truths about users needs, develop user personal and map their experiences across the portfolio
• Drive consistency across the portfolio of products by partnering with your design counterparts.
• Push for usability testing to validate and improve designs
• Continuously push for improvement of existing products through iterative testing and design projects
• Other tasks may apply

About you:

• 5+ years of experience in digital Product Design/Interaction Design
• Bachelor's Degree in design or related field
• Certification in Human Computer Interaction preferred
• Must have experience working in an Agile environment
• Experience working with complex, heavy data oriented systems like Utilities, Finance or Insurance
• Experience designing across mobile products, web based responsive mobile and pure web-based platforms
• Must have rapid prototyping ability and have run user research and usability testing projects
• Must have been part of a Product team that has seen the full lifecycle of a product and has iterated on designs to test and learn
• Strong design and data visualization skills
• Expertise with relevant design programs: Adobe Creative Suite, InVision, Sketch, etc.
• Strong communication and problem solving skills
• Ability to work quickly under tight deadlines
• Your portfolio shows a range of full Product design work including wireframes, UX/UI and visual design, walking through case studies that outline your role in the process
• Great collaborator, excited to share your experience with the team to bring up the skills of those around you
