Onward Search is seeking a part-time Junior Copywriter for a retail store client in Detroit. The Junior Copywriter is responsible for making sure that all creative site assets are proofread, trafficked and released to production, error-free. 


  • 2+ years of experience proofreading, copyediting and copywriting site assets
  • Extremely strong, proven experience proofing and top-notch copyediting skills
  • 2+ years’ experience managing projects in partnership with cross-functional teams
  • Proven ability to do a final sign-off on assets in terms of accurate spelling and content
  • Outstanding attention to detail: legal disclaimers, % values and brand names
  • Able to learn and apply brand and category expertise in men’s, women’s and kids’ apparel, accessories and footwear, in addition to home and beauty
  • Experience writing marketing emails targeted to a variety of demographics and to serve a variety of end purposes (marketing, engagement, special offers, promos)
  • Keen eye for detail and exhibited ability to show initiative
  • Working knowledge of SEO and social media best practices
  • Knowledge of key FTC and legal issues as they apply to advertising and disclaimers
  • Knowledge of AP Style and ability to adhere to a specific proofing style guide
  • Fashion, brand, designer and retail ecommerce expertise is a plus
  • Subject line and preheader writing experience
  • Proven ability to write site copy including headlines, subheads and other assets with an eye toward effectively selling specific brands and products to specific audiences
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to take on projects and follow them through from beginning to end, asking the right questions along the way
  • Ability to follow direction, respect leadership and adapt to changing business strategies

The position primarily involves keeping all site and store marketing assets—including homepages, emails, landing pages, banners, social media postings, digital advertising, print assets, brochures and product descriptions—cleanly updated, error-free and edited in the voice and tone established by the Owner. Attention to detail is critical to this role, including the proven ability to proofread and finalize assets. They are looking for a strong writer with the ability to write powerful headlines, site copy, subject lines and marketing collateral with proven success.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Advertising or related field
  • 2+ years’ experience in creative production, including copywriting and proofreading
  • 2+ years overseeing projects end-to-end, releasing final proofs error-free
  • Specific ecommerce copywriting and editorial experience in fashion retail
  • Mandatory ecommerce retail experience, print experience a plus
  • Familiarity with content management systems and Web-based applications
  • Willingness to pitch in and help write product copy when needed
  • Flexible, positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow with the team
  • Knowledge of Hootsuite or a similar platform
