Hot start up gaming company in Santa Monica is seeking a BACK END ENGINEER to help develop a backend system to a global social game they are creating. This role will support the team as they enter beta testing.


  • Refine & scale dynamic drop-in & out matching system built on top of Erlang, C++, Kafka, Redis and Postgres
  • Design, build and refine player data visualizations and support tools in Vue.js and SVG
  • Create & maintain high volume C++ game client systems to sync player state in a reliable, secure and scalable manner
  • Provide dynamic AWS environments using Ansible and Python
  • Assist with future multiplayer technology, systems and design
  • May be required to convert high throughput http requests to store data in a shared Redis cluster vs Postgres database
  • Create live updating SVG heatmap visualization of player positions over time possible
  • Tune disconnected timeouts on a game server based on player usage patterns
  • Automate the provisioning of a shared ElastiCache cluster
  • Work with level editor to add new objective type to capture new type of player data


  • Min 3 years experience in developing and maintaining live backend systems
  • Value simple solutions
  • Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-moving game development studio
  • Open to stepping in where needed, great attitude


  • The client is unable to support 1099 / Corp-to-Corp or Independent Contractor arrangements at this time. All freelancers will be paid as W2 employees.
