Onward Search's client, a leading provider of high-quality automotive audio, video, navigation and control systems, is looking for a UI Designer to join their team for a project. You will report to the Manager of the UX Group and work with the team on the following responsibilities.


  • Ensures that UI is visually communicating the interaction to improve usability by using visual elements such as forms, typography, colors, and motion/animation.
  • Generates and applies cohesive style guidelines to ensure that a consistent design language is applied throughout the system while matching the brand and the ideal experience of users.
  • Work alone or as a member of a team to create the visual language of the Interface and bring its personality to life through graphic design techniques.
  • This includes the initial development of color, shape, font choices, typography, icons, motion and other graphical elements that meet the Brand needs of the project.
  • Contribute to user research, creating system solutions and concepts, defining the principles and personas for the project.
  • Work closely with interaction designer in developing Interaction models, wireframes, mockups user task flows and UI specifications as needed.
  • Create a cohesive style guideline to be applied across the user interface. Maintain consistency in visual elements and define behavior throughout all screens.
  • Production of assets and screens for Ul's that have been selected for production including the perfect replication of screens, generation of camps, cutting and extraction of parts, and any supporting material that Engineering needs to develop the Ul.
  • Generate motion samples and system features to match the specific project requirements, and create an associated video as necessary.
  • Be aware of Vehicle's brand identity or project specific design strategies and provide unique solutions that stay on target.
  • Assist engineers in development phases providing proper materials including animation samples, screen assets, and review document to engineers and guide them when needed, communicating with them consistently to review and support them.
  • Utilize a broad range of design related software to visualize and eventually realize visual design solutions, and keep continually updated with the latest software, techniques, and design trends.
  • Assist and create presentations, sketches, diagrams, maps, computer renderings, storyboards, videos, or other items as necessary to properly communicate ideas and solutions to team, colleagues, suppliers, or clients.
  • Assist in the development of design briefs by gathering information and data through web searches, reports, surveys, field research, or other.
  • Self-critique work based on design brief, personal experiences, field reviews, and other considering ergonomic experience and user distraction/simplification.
  • Assist in preparing testing materials and contribute to User testing and validation of proposed solutions as needed.
  • Be aware of technology trends and how they relate to UI/ design trends. Utilize tech news, consumer trends, trade shows, and award annuals.
  • Seek out new solutions to common problems that provide improvements to usability, desirability, safety, and production cost.
  • Create designs that are on target for the User while understanding and considering added cost versus added value.


  • Bachelor's degree (B.A) in Design (Graphics, Product, Industrial or interface / interaction) from four-year college or university.
  • 2-6 years of experience in UI.
  • Some automotive, electronics/mechanical knowledge, and/or programming knowledge is preferred.
  • Must have a general understanding of wireframes and transition documents, and can visualize the interface by referring to these documents; however, wireframes and transition Specifications do not fall within the scope of this position.
  • Expected to have a strong drive for research with an intuition of the market and trends, and be able to build new patterns based on this knowledge.
  • Should have a passion to share with others their findings and views, and enjoy generating supporting material to educate others who might not share this ability to envision the future.
  • Must have empathy for the User and be able to imagine and create designs that speak to the heart of the user and their needs.
  • Basic PC and Windows Office Programs, along with Adobe CS5 including aftereffects or similar heavy emphasis on Photoshop.
  • Understanding of the following a plus, Java, Javascript DHTML, HTML5, CSS, PHP, ASP, Unix, Linux, Android, Adobe Air, Alias, Eclipse.
