Onward Play is hiring a Senior Gameplay Programmer. This person will play a major role in the technical development of features that directly contribute to the overall gameplay experience. You will partner with multiple disciplines to bring gameplay ideas into fully functioning, technically sound, and performant gameplay features. You will partner with design, animation, art, and user research to deliver polished, responsive, innovative, and fun gameplay experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prototype, implement, and maintain gameplay systems
  • Document your work and establish best practices for less technical team members
  • Work through the implementation options for various systems with your discipline partners. Explain the trade-offs for each approach to non-technical customers. Provide guidance and recommendations for implementation based on your experience
  • Work with tech leadership to define coding best practices. Support engineering peers through code reviews

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of gameplay systems, designer workflows and the variables that need to be exposed to help teams build and iterate on gameplay systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar field, or equivalent work experience that demonstrates your capacity to solve highly technical problems in code
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience or shipped at least one AAA game title as a gameplay engineer
  • C++ expert with strong coding capabilities in various scripting languages
  • Understanding of performance and memory management
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • The patience and positivity required to troubleshoot big and small problems with artists, designers, engineers and executives, who may be less technical than yourself
