Our client, an independent advertising agency, is looking for a Senior Brand Strategist experienced with positioning, purpose, target, and upstream innovation work to join their team. Candidates must be local to NYC as the team is in the office twice per week.

What you'll be doing:

  • Grow the potential of other team members through inspired leadership, hand-holding, teaching, nurturing and at times critiquing. The interns, junior planners and planners will be looking to you for learning and growth, and you can help get them there while engaging them in ways that lighten your load
  • Identify and collaborate with external organizations, publications, etc. to keep learning and to enrich our opportunities for experimentation and global domination
  • Oversee the work of outside vendors conducting qualitative and quantitative research projects and bring insight on how to succeed in every methodology, back to the agency team
  • Leverage your category knowledge to help build new agency capabilities

About you:

  • 7-10 years of agency brand strategy experience
  • Experience leading Brand Strategy including Brand Purpose, Brand Positioning, Target Defining, Upstream Innovation, and Commercializing
  • Conceptual thinker – ability to develop frameworks and process that help solve problems and create real opportunity
  • The ability to analyze and distill disparate information sources (quantitative and qualitative), and recommend additional insight required, to scope the broad consumer and brand opportunity and guide brand development
  • Strong writing and presenting skills – can turn complex concepts into a clear, vivid and persuasive story – often visually
  • Client relations – to be able to share our thinking in a persuasive way, where clients feel challenged, energized, but not intimidated
  • Collaborative manager – effectively manage up and down to maximize impact; manage expectations and develop junior team members
  • Consultative skills – ability to get to the real client brief/agenda by asking questions that open up possibility and by helping to simplify the problem / challenge
  • Facilitation – know how to share insights and strategies in ways that bring clients into the process as co-collaborators
  • At times designing, but most often interpreting qual, quant and other research
  • The ability to be both a teacher and a student
  • Confidence to speak-up, speak-out and to back it up, with strong business-sense and a passion for creativity
  • Insatiable curiosity and initiative
