Our client, a nationally recognized retailer, is experiencing explosive growth and building out a brand new UX team in the heart of Chicago. In this newly created role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for building a repeatable and scalable system to house all design. This person must have a keen eye for detail, an undisputed understanding of UI/UX, and an uncanny ability to juggle.


  • Sketch, ideate, and generate new concepts based on self-driven research, Product Team input, and stakeholder direction
  • Establish a high-output workflow that is deadline-driven, with meticulous attention to detail that enables seamless handoffs to the teams you support
  • Communicate effectively in a cross-functional product development team and present ideas and designs effectively


  • Experience designing intricate and cohesive visual design systems that contribute to a unified user experience across multiple customer touchpoints
  • Good listener, and experienced with brainstorming techniques that help build consensus among a large, diverse group of stakeholders
  • Collaborative and team-oriented work approach
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design processes and ability to balance customer needs with business goals and metrics in developing solutions
  • Ability to convert ideas quickly into design artifacts
  • Experience with design tools that help translate ideas into working products, including, but not limited to: Sketch, Axure, Principal/Flinto, Framer, and InVision
  • Experience designing and prototyping native app and web solutions for a range of screen sizes/resolutions: mobile, tablet, desktop, etc.
  • Foundational understanding and experience with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) that inform your design decisions and handoffs
  • Experience with Agile development processes
  • E-commerce experience a plus

Education and/or Experience:

  • 2-5 years’ experience within the fields of product, interaction and visual design
  • strong typography, color, iconography, and animation design experience
  • demonstrated understanding of user-centered design principles to produce high-quality visuals—from concept to execution
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical work experience
  • A link to an online portfolio showcasing your work (Include link on your resume) that demonstrates your experience creating elegant, thoughtful and comprehensive UI experiences

Technical Skills:

  • Have an understanding of: front-end development best practices; Atomic design principles; user-centered design process; usability and user research methods; data analysis


  • The client is unable to support 1099 / Corp-to-Corp or Independent Contractor arrangements at this time. All freelancers will be paid as W2 employees.
