Onward Play's exciting gaming client is seeking a Technical Director to lead their engineering team and drive the technical direction as they embark on an exciting new phase in their studio's development. This role offers a unique opportunity to establish a team and design the systems and tools for our upcoming game set in a well known IP.
As a key member of the studio leadership, you will collaborate closely with other directors to shape the team's growth and project trajectory. You will advocate for robust code and identify cutting-edge technologies that align with our project requirements.
This role is remote on hybrid on-site with core hours in the Eastern time zone.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the success and well-being of the engineering team.
- Manage staffing, including planning, hiring, training, and career development.
- Establish and maintain high-quality coding standards for the studio, ensuring the team's adherence to them.
- Research and propose solutions and products to enhance the studio's technological expertise.
- Take a holistic view of the project, anticipating potential technological challenges and recommending appropriate solutions.
- Dive into the details of the project, ensuring that the engineering team possesses the necessary tools and skills to fulfill their tasks.
- Collaborate with other studio directors to define a path for overall studio and project success.
Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of C++ and familiarity with C#, Python, Blueprints, Algorithms, Data Structures, Multi-Core and Threading.
- Experience with Perforce and build maintenance.
- Expertise in game engines.
- Familiarity with developing multiplayer games.
- Understanding of networking concepts.
- Broad knowledge of games, game development, and development tools.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the game industry, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly.
- Curiosity, kindness, and a positive and professional can-do attitude.
- Candidates must have a valid US work permit or citizenship.
Nice to Haves:
- Deep experience with Unreal Engine 4/5.
- Successfully shipped one or more Unreal Engine multiplayer titles.
- Specific experience with various gameplay systems, such as camera, input, collision, AI, etc.
- Solid understanding of rendering systems.
- Experience in building and utilizing backend systems for online games.
