Onward Search is looking for a Technical Writer to join our prominent corporate client in Greensboro for an onsite contract-to-hire role!
The Technical Writer is responsible for creating technical documentation from research and review of engineering, manufacturing, test, and supplier data. This includes but is not limited to technical manuals, parts catalogs, and maintenance procedures.
Develops and author procedures for Technical Publications in Framemaker and Cortona3D Rapid Authoring programs. These software solutions are what we use at the company but prior experience in either program is NOT required.
Researches and verifies technical information to ensure it meets interdepartmental reliability and maintainability evaluations.
Writes maintenance procedures by processing source documents, notes, and vendor information within a Product Lifecycle Management system.
Provides peer reviews and works with a team of technical writers with various backgrounds.
Interviews production assemblers, engineers and outside vendor personnel to gain insight into writing the procedure.
Attends change control board, document approval, and information gathering meetings as a representative of the Technical Publications department.
Bachelor’s degree required; English or Communications major strongly preferred.
2+ years of prior technical writing experience required. Experience in engineering, transportation, aviation, or manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
Previous experience authoring documentation in structured Adobe Framemaker (i.e. - SGML, XML, typically DTDs/schema, elements and attributes) preferred but not required.
Working knowledge of technical publications regulatory requirements and industry writing specifications.
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints is a plus.
Prior experience proofreading and editing highly technical manuals and documentation required.
Proficiency in MS Office suite.
Ability to make sound writing decisions with little input from supervisors.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels within an organization.
Professionalism is a key personality trait for the successful candidate.
Samples of technical writing REQUIRED and must be included at time of application. This is not a creative or marketing copywriting position and appropriate samples should be provided.
