Our client, a well known financial institution is seeking a well-rounded UI Designer to join their team on a long-term contract basis. The ideal candidate will own UX from research, through concept, to delivery of a sophisticated internal tool, key to the business. Your successful design work will rethink a legacy process and bring multiple legacy systems into a cohesive, intuitive, modern application. Do you appreciate the design of TurboTax, but find yourself thinking of ways it could be better (while procrastinating on your taxes…)? This is the project for you.

You are:

  • Versatile. You are comfortable doing guerrilla research, partnering with product managers on the overall strategy and delivering a quality design to be built by your Agile development team partners.
  • Collaborative. You enjoy working on agile teams with product managers and engineers. You’re a team player who puts the interest of the team above your own. You will collaborate with business analysts, product managers, developers and design teams on research activities, strategy sessions, ideation, design, and testing of new product concepts. You display a positive attitude and are excited to share your ideas with the team as well as listen to those of others.
  • Self-starter While you will need to be a collaborative member of the larger project team, you will be an autonomous “UX team of one” and need to be comfortable owning the UX, driving the product forward while embedded with this team.
  • Have a can-do attitude. You’re a pro-active team player who is eager and excited about producing excellent work. No task is too small or large for you. You can work alone or with partners to problem solve and develop clear action and execution plans for a task, informing your manager of progress appropriately.
  • Detail Oriented. You impress your teammates with the ability to pick out small nuances that no one else seems to notice. You’re proud that your production files are always pixel perfect and you’ve thought through every permutation of your designs, making the development process smooth sailing.
  • A systems thinker. As you translate user needs, style guides, and requirements into elegant solutions for complex problems, you’re not just thinking about the task at hand but about how your design choices scale and fit within larger established systems and patterns.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Understanding of interface and interaction patterns and best practices for various platforms, as well as experience working within a responsive design framework.
  • Understanding of human-centered design and UX practices.
  • 5+ years of experience in the field of UX design or a related area.
  • Experience working within established brand guidelines and style guide. Interest in helping govern digital instructions and flex system where needed.
  • Ability to work from low fidelity to high fidelity.
  • Experience creating prototypes that showcase design concepts and interaction patterns.
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS, with the ability to work closely with engineers to implement designs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within cross-disciplinary teams, as well as ability to work independently.
  • Ability to quickly deliver multiple, inventive ideas that are fresh and simple while solving complex business needs.
  • Ability to communicate your design decisions with the team and craft elegant presentation and storytelling capabilities.
  • Understanding and utilization of Lean and Agile methodologies.
  • Research the latest technologies, best practices, and online trends to provide recommendations for the team.
  • Proficiency with current design tools (Adobe CC, Axure, Sketch, Invision, etc.).
