Onward Search is seeking a top notch visual designer to bring their creative skills to our clients growing team.

What You’ll Do

  • Comment on and implement strategic thinking from the project team, rolling out visual design systems across multiple projects, working within pre-established guidelines as well as contributing to the definition of new guidelines
  • Support the senior design leadership to deliver high quality project work and support the evolution of best practise and standards
  • Be client facing, responsible for presenting your work, taking feedback and critique and helping to guide our clients to the best solutions
  • Contribute to the evolution of visual design aspects of our work and ensure it is robust, progressive and commercially strong.

About the Role

As Midweight Designer you will have been developing responses to complex digital ecosystem problems for 3+ years within an agency or design studio. You will therefore have good experience and competency across of a wide range of design tools, design software, techniques, UX methodologies and processes - and know when to use them. Your broad experience will enable you to apply visual flair where necessary, but always ensure the highest quality of finish, rooted in a deep understanding of your audience.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop and produce artefacts across the full design spectrum (sketches, prototypes, storyboards, visual design systems, guidelines)
  • Design and deliver visual elements to the highest degree of polish
  • Roll out effective design executions across multiple templates or components by setting ?design direction or using existing design styles and patterns
  • Present, explain and justify design solutions to multidisciplinary teams and clients
  • Be an active, motivated and inspired member of the team

Key Skills

  • Be able to use the usual design and prototyping software to a high standard (Such as: Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator, Invision, Axure, Omnigraffle, Sublime/Atom, Keynote, pen and paper) + any you can introduce us to
  • Be a highly skilled and experienced UI designer covering all aspects of digital responsive interaction design
  • Be able to confidently sketch journeys and interfaces in collaborative teams and in workshops with clients.
  • Be able to comfortably discuss and explore design concepts, demonstrating an ability to think creatively
  • Be able to have full and frank conversations, employing sensitivity and robustness in equal measure
  • Give and receive critical feedback and praise
  • Understand the scope you are working to, help plan, understand resourcing, estimate ?effort and ask for help when needed
  • Actively seek out peer input, knowing when to defend and when to flex
  • Be able to input into and discuss early design hypothesis as a starting point for collaborative iteration (happy being publicly wrong too)
  • Be aware of limits of knowledge and able to self-challenge; open to counterbalancing input from others
  • Actively contribute to project debate, and unify behind the teams decision
  • Be self-taught, understand new things by trying them, doing them, building them
  • Seek out opportunities to learn from other disciplines.

Nice to Haves

  • Are able to animate – have AfterEffects skills
  • Have a working knowledge of coding
  • Are an active member of the design community
  • Have experience working on pitches and new business proposals
  • Are able to help plan, develop and execute user research to inform design decisions
