Onward Search is hiring a UX Design Lead - Innovation for a national client with offices in Columbus, Ohio.

Details:

  • Permanent Placement
  • Remote for now but will be required to be on-site June 2nd when the company opens its offices back up
  • Full relocation is provided

Job Overview:

  • You will be an instrumental member of the team -engaging directly with users and working to uncover key unmet needs, assess the desirability, viability, and feasibility of potential opportunities and rapid-prototype solutions to big problems; then get it to market, often in partnership with other teams throughout the company
  • You’ll lead the pod through the design process, collaborating with researchers to translate key user insights and team brainstorms into actual “things” that could be built upon to meet human needs
  • You’ll create low fidelity conceptual representations (sketched or produced “artifacts”) of those ideas
  • You’ll partner with researchers to help us take that idea into testing with real users in order to learn more, ultimately iterating to higher fidelity as we narrow our focus …with many ideas launching into market
  • This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a designer to participate in a true human-centered approach to innovation at a large insurance and financial services company interested in disrupting itself
  • The goal is to deliver delightful end to end experiences so impactful that the user can’t imagine anything else

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the human driven innovation process with cross functional team members
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, researchers, technologists, and business leads in order to achieve the best outcome
  • Support and participate in rapid prototyping of ideas and solutions directly with consumers and customers
  • Clearly define the right problems to solve (“the what”) and ensure we have the right end to end solutions to solve them (“the how”)
  • Understand that failure is part of innovation process, with the ability to prove that we’ve failed, learn and move on
  • Quickly design and iterate concepts based on user needs, leveraging excellent fundamental understanding of UX patterns and best practices
  • Increase designs in fidelity as the team narrows focus, driving towards solutions we can launch to market
  • Drive towards exceedingly simple and intuitive designs that engender and preserve “delight” by users, engaging users throughout the design process
  • Work with researchers to define and influence the research approach to test prototypes directly with users for maximum learnings
  • Keep a pulse on design best practices and be on top of key design trends within insurance, financial services, and technology industries
  • Anticipate where relevant companies, trends, and technologies might be going and inform strategies

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years professionally practicing some aspect of human-centered design
  • Must have a Design Thinking background and be able to show examples of work
  • Superior skills in at least one core UX competency: experience strategy, information architecture, interaction design, or visual / interface design and an excellent working grasp of each
  • Demonstrate a thorough comprehension of the human-centered design process and feel very comfortable in the messy exploration phase of identifying the right problem to solve
  • Ability to create low fidelity artifacts
  • Excel at sharing, evangelizing and iterating ideas with the team and other stakeholders
  • Possess a quick and keen understanding of past, current and future design patterns, visual trends, user research methodologies, consumer psychology, and business strategy
  • Must also feel uncomfortable designing experiences that merely satisfy
  • The ability to communicate and influence design solutions that best meet user needs and business objectives will be critical
  • Must have high-level, out-of-the-box thinking
  • Ability to lead a team through the design process
  • Ability to clearly articulate the design decisions behind executions, and assist researchers with analyzing the results of testing, and recommend winning design solutions
  • Must be highly collaborative and have a bias for action
  • Must have an entrepreneurial mindset but can also work in a corporate environment
